 Insurance Coverage

Craniosacral Therapy is now recognized as an effective therapy in the field of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine. This means that your session MAY be covered by your medical insurance with a prescription from your primary care physician and/or approval from your insurance company. Please check with your insurance company for their coverage guidelines. Although our office does not accept insurance payments, we can provide you with receipts for your sessions so that you can request reimbursement from your insurance company.

To prepare for your session

Please plan to arrive a few minutes early for your first session in order to take a few minutes to be present and set your intention for what you want and need from your session. It is recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing, since you will remain fully clothed during your session and bring a pair of socks if you are wearing sandals.

What to Expect
During your sessio
Craniosacral Therapy is NOT a massage. Clients are fully clothed and lie on a comfortable treatment table. Typically, the lights are dimmed and soft music plays in the back ground. Your lower back will be supported with a pillow beneath your knees. This time is for you so feel free to let me know what will make you the most comfortable. The therapist uses a light, safe touch that's different from other forms of bodywork. Although Craniosacral Therapy is very gentle, the effects can be powerful.  Experiences are individual and may differ from one session to the next. Some people talk a great deal, recalling memories. Others experience profound physical changes and pain relief. The number of sessions needed depends on your goals for healing and the nature of the disorder being addressed.

After your session

Immediately after a session people can feel blissfully relaxed. It is wise to listen to your body at this time, and give yourself some space to integrate the changes that were made. Drink some water and take a short walk before returning to your car. A reduction in pain or an increase in function and range of motion may happen immediately, or gradually happen over the next few days or weeks. Although Craniosacral Therapy is very gentle, the effects can be powerful. Some people may be aware of general aches and pains that 'come and go' for a few days after their session. Other people may feel emotions after their session. These sensations are temporary and a normal part of your body's healing process.

Receiving regular Craniosacral Therapy sessions works on the 'layers' that have developed throughout life (from accidents, injuries, falls, illnesses, surgery, stress, etc.). These layers are slowly peeled away, just as one would peel away layers of an onion. Some sessions you will find pain relief, while other sessions could bring up emotions or memories long forgotten. Clients who approach their health care proactively receive the best results. Eating right, drinking plenty of water, exercising to counteract stress, and minimizing environmental toxins are examples of ways you can support your greatest health.

Are there any conditions for which CST shouldn't be used?

There are certain situations where the application of CST would not be recommended. These include conditions where a variation and/or slight increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability. Acute aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage or other preexisting severe bleeding disorders are examples of conditions that could be affected by small intracranial pressure changes.

How many sessions will I need?

Response to CST varies from individual to individual and condition to condition. Your response is uniquely your own and can't be compared to anyone else's — even those cases that may appear to be similar. Someone who has the same "diagnosis" as you got there in a very different way than you did and so the way your body will choose to heal will be different also. The number of sessions needed release the restrictions causing your symptoms varies widely.

I like to hold the intention that after one session you will feel completely better! This has been known to happen! Also, it can take up to a full week after a session to feel its full effects and changes. Sometimes the changes are subtle and sometimes they are dramatic. For one person it might take only one session, for someone else it might take many.

I can usually tell within about three sessions whether I think that I can help you or not. If not, by then, I will have a good idea of who to refer you to. It is my belief that different modalities work for different people at different times.
